General Information

This year’s conference will focus on the technical aspects of swimming with our speakers sharing their knowledge about the developments that are being made in the world of aquatics. Within BCSSA, coaches need to keep moving towards the idea of becoming technical coaches, and developing programs that give our athletes the opportunity to achieve their goals and meet their dreams.

The job of a coach is to provide opportunities for each individual and to give them the tools and skills that will help them find their path as an athlete. The road might end at making a provincial final in the 50 free, becoming a junior coach in seasons to come, or trying to make a final at Olympic Trials years down the road.

The job of the coach is not to choose an athlete’s path, but to lead them to opportunities that are right in front of them. We need to be united on the idea that we are not creating the athlete, but developing the person.

We thank you for your interest in this year’s conference. By attending, you show your commitment to yourself as a coach, your club, the BCSSA, and most importantly your athletes in the pool. This conference has been designed to provide you with the tools and skills to reach your own potential as a coach so that you can guide your athletes in the direction fit for them.

We hope that all regions and clubs in the BCSSA will be able to send coaches to the conference to support the growth and development of coaching. To assist with this, the BCSSA Board of Directors has funding set aside for the Coaches Conference to reduce the cost of the conference to attendees substantially! This also helps offset other costs for out of town clubs and coaches to attend.

This is one opportunity for coaches to participate in professional development in the 2020 season.

Registration is coming soon!

Agassiz Harrison Aquanauts Are Hiring

The Provincial office has released the info for bookings at UBC. The booking link below will take you to our Region’s booking portal. The option provided is a Private suite with six bedrooms, each with a single bed. Sleeps up to six people. Washroom with two showers (no bathtub), lounge with TV, wired internet, and fully equipped kitchen. Located on floors 2 to 9 in each Tower. The apartment does not have air conditioning.

The suite is sold at a flat rate of $338 + tax per night regardless of the number of occupants; a maximum of 6 guests per suite. Occupants must have the same check-in and check-out dates.

It is up to you if you want to organize with other families to split this cost. The province had asked Jim to admin this, but he declined =) cause he has faith that each club and family can figure it out, and make plans to the way each family wants it.

If you are unsure 50/50, book anyways, if all the rooms get booked UBC will open another tower, they just don’t want to open another tower and have no one show up.

At this point, we have 15 rooms allocated for our Region. Again, once these get booked and if we need more then Jim can request that. He is not sure when the last date is that they are willing to open more rooms, but they guarantee that to cancel a booking 10 days in advance will come with NO PENALTY. So people can make their final minds up after our Regionals and be OK.
